Hydroid, Inc. has recently opened a new facility at Pocasset on Cape Cod where the production for REMUS 100, 600 and 6000 vehicles is scheduled through a flexible and highly optimised production line. BlueZone CTO, Darren Burrowes, was one of the first to tour the new facility guided by Richard Amirault (Manufacturing Manager), and observe the new production lines recently bedded down and in operation producing the REMUS vehicles that are the benchmark in their industry for their type.

Responding to customer demand, Hydroid can reconfigure its production facilities to meet the need for production for all vehicle types from the man-portable REMUS 100 to the deep-diving REMUS 6000. Customer requirements for sensor configuration, batteries and special payloads can be accommodated in all processes from part production through to final assembly and test of complete vehicle systems. All REMUS vehicles are subject to full at-sea testing in the nearby Buzzard’s Bay area where Hydroid test staff put the vehicles through their paces and ensure that every vehicle meets its specifications.

In development at Pocasset was the REMUS 600 dock that will enable REMUS to stay submerged for extended periods by providing the capability to re-charge batteries and upload/download data. Offshore oil and gas customers will benefit from this capability, as the REMUS can be used for continual autonomous survey and monitoring of pipelines without the need to provide ship support.

BlueZone has been working closely with REMUS users in Australia to build a knowledge base of support for REMUS and to assist with the integration of new sensors and payloads. As the REMUS fleet in Australia grows, BlueZone and Hydroid, Inc. have agreed to continue discussions regarding the establishment of a REMUS Authorised Service Centre capability that will provide for faster turnaround of all types of service for REMUS vehicles.
