Navy, Army and Air Force Gather At Saab Seaeye

Officers from an international group representing the Navy, Army and Air Force gathered at Saab Seaeye in Fareham, Hampshire, UK. Saab Seaeye is represented in Australia by ATSA Defence Services, a BlueZone Group company.

The ATSA company gave presentations to officers at HMS Collingwood before their tour of Saab Seaeye, which included issues surrounding defence procurement. While touring the company’s manufacturing and engineering facilities, the officers were able to see and hear how remotely operated robotic vehicles are designed and manufactured.

Saab Seaeye has a long experience in providing underwater vehicles using advanced technology for defence forces around the world, including the Double Eagle Mine Disposal System operated by the Royal Australian Navy from the HUON Class Minehunter Coastal ships. ATSA Defence Services is a specialised provider of support for robotic technologies to the RAN and is a supplier to the Saab Seaeye global supply chain.

Recently, the company hosted an international group of maritime marine threat experts that includes the Deputy Director of the NATO Underwater Research Centre, who examined a wide range of mine counter-measure underwater vehicles, including one for the disposal of underwater IEDs.

Saab Seaeye is the world’s largest electrical underwater vehicle manufacturer with the most advanced range of tethered, autonomous and hybrid vehicle systems and operates in the commercial, defence and scientific markets.

MuMNS
The Saab Multi Shot Mine Neutralisation System MuMNS is loaded with at least three explosive charges It speeds mission advance by remaining in the water until all weapons are expended unlike conventional single shot systems As an ROV operating system it will return for reloading bringing significant cost savings when compared to a single shot disposable system

Saab has been working with the US Combat Terrorism Technical Support Organisation (CTTSO) and the result of the groundbreaking Waterborne Anti-LED Security Platform (Sea Wasp). The latest generation Saab Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) is designed for a successful relocation, identification and naturalisation, of IEDs in the confined areas and challenging environmental conditions of ports and harbours. The hydrodynamically stable, highly reliable system boasts exceptional performance and low lifecycle costs, making it an ideal, cost-effective choice.

ATSA Defence Services supplies the “Tether Connector Mk II” product to the Saab Seaeye global supply chain. It provides a faster and lower risk way to connect to the Double Eagle Mine Disposal Vehicle. Sea trials with the Royal Australian Navy showed that it is a robust and reliable design and the connector has been supplied to Saab for the Scandinavian navies.
